Are you sticking to your New Year’s resolutions, or have they long ago faded into your hectic lifestyle?  Do you need a personal assistant to help you stay motivated and reach your fitness goals?  Fitbits are unique pieces of technology designed to help you track your progress. Workfit. Dancefit. Eatfit. Runfit. Fitbit.

I received my Fitbit as a gift for my birthday about a year ago, and I became infatuated with it. I wear it all the time and look forward every day to reaching my goal.

What Exactly is a Fitbit?

Fitbits are activity trackers, wireless-enabled wearable technology devices that measure data such as: the number of steps walked, heart rate, quality of sleep, steps climbed, and other personal metrics. The Fitbit’s purpose is to empower and inspire you to live a healthier, more active life. The products are designed to fit seamlessly into your life, so you can achieve your health and fitness goals, whatever they may be. Fitbit is tapping into an important field of wearable sensors, which I believe is the near future of personal health as we know it.

What Types of Fitbits are there?

There are many different types of Fitbits that range from clips for everyday activity to wristbands for exercise. The types are called: Zip, One, Flex, Charge, Alta, Charge HR, Blaze, and Surge. The company even has invented a scale named Aria. I have the Alta, and I wear it every day.

How do I Use it?

When you first get a Fitbit, all you need to do is put it on charge, and then you hook it up wirelessly to your phone or wired to your computer through an app. It starts working instantly.

What are the Benefits?

Fitbits have features like calorie counting, distance traveled, time, sleep tracking, a silent vibrating alarm, floors climbed, active minutes, auto exercise recognition, heart rate monitoring, caller ID, text notifications, music control, GPS tracking, workout recording, food and water logging, and you can even share and compete your goals with others on the app. I personally enjoy challenging my friends on the app to see who can get the most steps in one day. It is also extremely rewarding when the app gives you badges for completing accomplishments over time. The goal on your device is set for 10,000 steps every day. The American Heart Association uses the 10,000 steps metric as a guideline to follow for improving health and decreasing risk of heart disease, the number one killer of men and women in America.

My mom and I got her fiancé a Fitbit for Christmas since he just recently had open heart surgery. It has helped tremendously in his rehabilitation, and he gets more and more steps every day! I can see his progress because we’re friends on the app, and we share data.  Fitbits can literally be lifesavers!

The Fitbit is a complete personal diet and training device. While health can be serious business, Fitbit’s philosophy is that it doesn’t have to be. They believe you’re more likely to reach your goals if you’re encouraged to have fun, smile, and feel empowered through the process. You can get your 10,000 steps a day while having a little fun along the way.
